OUR PROJECTS

The popular cartoonist has been highlighting Goa’s environmental degradation forcefully in almost all of Goa’s daily newspapers and magazines. And for all this work Alexyz has been honoured and feted, more overseas than at home in Goa. In Portugal, he was awarded a special prize for humour where his works were exhibited amidst 50 other continental cartoonists.

Alexyz is also probably the sole Indian cartoonist who had the honour to have his creativity exhibited at the ‘mother of all parliaments’ – the House of Commons in England, at the special invitation of MP Keith Vaz.

He has also been honoured with the prestigious Verodiano Award instituted by Dom Martin in the United States. Locally, the Jaycees of Panjim were the only organisation to felicitate him for his socio-political cartoons highlighting environmental issues.

Alexyz book “Goa, Goan, Goaing, Gone…? Cartoons Terse, Satirical Verse” depicts the traumatic and turbulent times that Goa is going through. Alexyz says, “Never before in the history of Goa has our red earth been devastated so blatantly as it is being done by our present-day politicians and builders of all shades, so much so that it has affected not only the State’s topography but also its geography. Simultaneously, our moral fabric too is on a continuous downslide.”

The book, published by Coconut Brush publications, will be launched at the International Goan Convention 2008 in Toronto on July 24, and later on under the aegis of Goa Sudharop Inc at the International Community Centre at Milipitas, San Jose, California, on August 7, 2008.

In Goa, “Goa, Goan, Goaing, Gone…?” will be released by the Lions Club of Arpora, Nagoa and Parra, on July 14, 2008, at 5.00 pm, at the Kala Academy Black Box, Campal, Panjim, at the hands of Padmashree Adv Norma Alvares with Wendell Rodricks being the guest of honour.
