The poet-painter-cartoonist also gets embrolled in uncovering moss-covered traditions and social issues..even got himself arrested during teh Konkani agitation in Goa. His distinct line has been admired immensely at home and abroad. On the last occassion when he toured Portugal, Alexyz was chosen from 50 continental cartoonists and awarded a Special Prize for Humour. But he deems his exhibition in the house of Commons , London,1999, as the height of his exciting career. Alexyz likes to pen limericks too and has limertooned over 200 of them, and should be publishing them shortly.. He conducts laughter sessions,begun research on laughter and proclaims: a laugh a day keeps the doctor away. His presence has dominated Goan dailies and weeklies for over two decades. It is in the thematic cartoon, that one senses a shift in his work, moving away from undefined territories to more focussed areas which are not merely topical (like the topical cartoon). Added to this, a growing concern about the degradation of the environment and you have Alexyz emerging in a new avatar; reinventing his art and undergoing a metamorphosis himself. Regardless of the kind of cartoon he attempts, what comes across powerfully is his keen observation and no-holds barred use of line, his prime element of communication. you are thus confronted by an art which you cannot remain indifferent to.
